What is in a name

As this is my first blog entry I thought I would explain the name. I struggled with coming up with the name for this blog but it came to me today. We talked about trying to call it something fun and amusing..but really, we aren't that creative (though I know some of you might not believe that :-)  )

One might read it like I am interpreting my family to be Number 1, numero uno! Well in my book they are definitely that.

Others might interpret that our blog is to be about the rules by which our family exists. In a sense they are partially correct.

However, I got the idea while in church today. Our pastor, the estimeable Dr. Julius DelPino, was presenting a sermon on John Wesley and his General Rules. Sometimes referred to as Three Simple Rules...and the amazing thing, is that they really are simple rules. My family tries to live by these on a regular basis, though because we are human, we struggle with them. What we didn't realize is that they were promoted by John Wesley as part of the Methodist Church.

The rules are:

1. Do no harm - My children have gotten into some of the biggest trouble when trying to harm each other.
2. Do good - Do good for your family, do good for the world around you.
3. Stay in love with God - He is there for you in both the good and bad times and if you do 1 and 2, it will be much easier to follow this one.

Much of the time I will use this blog to talk about the recent antics that have been going on in our family. Other times though I might use it as a sounding board. No matter the case though, I will always do it following the rules above.
